Radiocast: Healthy Aging Month - AHRQ’s
Checklists for 50+
Debra: This is Healthcare 411: Information for better health. As we age,
we change, and so do our health care needs. AHRQ has two checklists, created in
partnership with AARP, to remind people that preventive care is vital to staying
healthy throughout a lifetime. AHRQ Director Dr. Carolyn Clancy:
Dr. Clancy: For both men and women over 50, the daily steps to good
health are ones we’ve probably all heard before: eat right, exercise and don’t
smoke. But the checklists, one for men and one for women, tell us about other
steps we need to take such as getting certain health screenings or taking
certain preventative medicines. The checklists make it easier for you to start a
conversation with your doctor about which screening tests and medicines are
right for you.
Debra: Free copies of the checklists are available at
AHRQ.gov/consumer.
Healthcare 411 is produced by AHRQ, the Agency for Healthcare Research and
Quality, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. I’m Debra
James for Healthcare 411.
