Radiocast: Blood Thinner Pills - AHRQ Releases
New Video for Consumers
Rand: This is Healthcare 411: Information for better health. Blood
thinner pills can prevent strokes, heart attacks and other conditions when taken
as directed. But when they aren’t, they can also cause serious problems. That’s
why AHRQ has created a new video to help people understand how to take these
medicines safely and effectively. AHRQ Director Dr. Carolyn Clancy:
Dr. Clancy: People on blood thinner pills often have to get regular blood
tests, watch their diet because it can affect their medication, and be wary of
cuts and bruises that can lead to bleeding. So the video, which is available in
English and Spanish, puts the process into plain language and offers people some
practical tips they can use in their everyday lives.
Rand: Get AHRQ’s new video, called "Staying Active and Healthy with Blood
Thinners," online at ahrq.gov.
Healthcare 411 is produced by AHRQ, the Agency for Healthcare Research and
Quality, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. I’m Rand
Gardner for Healthcare 411.
