Radiocast: Radiofrequency Ablation - New Guide
from AHRQ
Debra: This is Healthcare 411: Information for better health. More than
2.2 million American adults suffer from atrial fibrillation, an irregular heart
rhythm that puts them at risk for heart failure, blood clots or strokes.
Choosing a treatment can be complicated. To help, a new guide for consumers
summarizes the scientific findings from 120 research studies. Dr. Elise Berliner
from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality explains:
Dr. Berliner: The guide describes the benefits and risks of different
treatment options and explains which patients are good candidates for atrial
fibrillation. This kind of information can be very helpful to patients as they
discuss their options with their clinician and make a decision about what choice
is best for them.
Debra: This guide, called "Radiofrequency Ablation for Atrial
Fibrillation: A Guide for Adults," is available online at
effectivehealthcare.ahrq.gov. Healthcare 411 is produced by AHRQ, the Agency
for Healthcare Research and Quality, part of the U.S. Department of Health and
Human Services. I’m Debra James for Healthcare 411.
