Radiocast: National Women’s Health Week
Debra: This is Healthcare 411: Information for better health. National Women’s Health Week is May 10 through 16, and a good time to take a look at your health care routines. Are you getting the recommended preventive screenings and tests that could save your life? AHRQ Director Dr. Carolyn Clancy offers tips:
Dr. Clancy: It’s important to talk to your clinician about preventive health. AHRQ has a brochure for women that can help guide that discussion. It’s called "Women: Stay Healthy at Any Age." The guide explains which tests and counseling services most women need based on their age and risk factors. It gives recommendations for when women should ask their clinicians for tests such as mammograms, PAP smears and cholesterol checks.
Debra: Get your own women’s health guide online at ahrq.gov/consumer. The guide is based on advice from the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force. Healthcare 411 is produced by AHRQ, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. I’m Debra James for Healthcare 411.
