Radiocast: Ask Questions!

Rand: This is Healthcare 411: Information for better health. Asking questions: People aren’t afraid to get the information they need when they’re buying a cell phone or ordering at their favorite restaurant, but research shows many people don’t ask enough questions during doctors’ visits. That’s why AHRQ and the Ad Council created a series of public service ads encouraging consumers to get more involved in their health care. AHRQ Director Dr. Carolyn Clancy explains why questions are the answer:

Dr. Clancy: The focus of these ads is to make sure that individuals know the important role that they can play in helping to make health care safer. Research shows that consumers who get more involved with their health care can greatly improve the safety and quality of their care.

Rand: Check out the ads and make your own customized list of questions online at ahrq.gov/questionsaretheanswer. Healthcare 411 is produced by AHRQ, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. I’m Rand Gardner for Healthcare 411.
